Male and female plumage similar. Head and neck gray, throat and breast off-white to gray in color. Back an olive-green color. Tail is black with white-outer tail feathers which is a very helpful identification tool. Belly and under-tail coverts are a bright lemon-yellow color.

Common

Kingbirds are in the flycatcher family, so they do a lot of perching in open, exposed areas and wait for flying insects to go by. Very bold and tenacious, fearless when defending their territory from larger bird such as ravens. Kingbirds will 'mob' larger birds and drive them out of their territory.
